Oscar-Winning Short Film
Frédéric Back directed The Man Who Planted Trees in 1987 in the Radio-Canada animation studio. The film had an enormous success internationally, winning more than 40 awards, including the Oscar for Best Animated Short. It is an environmental tale filled with hope, celebrating the essential role of trees in the cycle of life. Back himself planted over 10,000 trees with his family.
Impressionistic softness and fluidity
“Trees are real life. They symbolize all the beneficial deeds that we can accomplish—and that we do accomplish—without looking for something in return.”
– Frédéric Back

Younger children are welcome, but the exhibition is designed with children aged 6 and older in mind. For that age group, the themes and displays are more engaging and easier to follow. While intended for a general audience, certain themes and elements may not be suitable for younger children. There are brief scenes of war and mental distress. The available headsets may not fit smaller children comfortably. Every child is different, and we encourage parents and guardians to decide what’s best, based on their child’s interests and attention span.
